What Child Protection Training do you or your staff require?
Currently in South Australia there are two primary training courses relative to Child Protection and the mandatory notification responsibility you or your staff may have in undertaking their role. These are:
Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education and Care (RRHAN-EC)
To work or volunteer in education and (child) care settings, this training is required. There are two stages, and depending on your role, you may be required to complete stage 1 (RRHAN-EC Fundamentals) or stages 1 and 2 (RRHAN-EC Masterclass).
This training has been developed by the Dept. for Education, together with Catholic Education SA (CESA) and the Association of Independent Schools SA (AISSA).
More information about the RRHAN-EC training can be found on the Dept. for Education RRHAN-EC site.
Child Safe Environments: Through their Eyes
If you and your staff work with children and young people aged under 18yrs, in a variety of environments which are considered ‘Child Related Employment’, by the Children and Young People’s (Safety) Act, 2017, outside of education and care settings, you will be required to undertake training in your mandated notification responsibilities, and this training would be recommended.
This training has been developed by the Dept. of Human Services (DHS) and the Dept. for Child Protection, and is overseen by DHS.
More information about the Child Safe Environments: Through their Eyes training can be found on the DHS Training - Safe Environments page.
So what types of services or activities are considered to be ‘Child Related Work’?
• accommodation and residential services for children (e.g camps, respite/foster care providers)
• services or activities provided by religious organisations (e.g. Sunday school, kids club, youth group)
• childcare or child-minding services (e.g. child care centres, early learning centres, creche’s, baby-sitting or in-home care)
• child protection services
• services or activities provided in the course of the operation of clubs and associations with a significant membership of, or involvement by, children (e.g. sports clubs, dance schools, playgroups, life-saving clubs, Scouts/Guides)
• coaching or tuition services for children (e.g. swim schools, tutoring, tennis coaching)
• commercial services provided directly to children (e.g. indoor play centres, outdoor adventure parks)
• disability services for children
• education services for children
• health services for children (e.g. Occupational therapy, Speech therapy, physiotherapy, family medical centres)
• justice and detention services for children
• transport services for children (e.g school bus/taxi drivers, driving instructors)
• the provision of traffic control at, or other supervision of, school pedestrian crossings - YES! Even the lollipop people!
